First of all… Hi, I’m Mikk. I’m a combination of a designer and photographer who also loves to doodle, draw, and illustrate. Daily I work on building and designing digital products for startups and whenever I have some time I go out to shoot urban and street photography(@drawntostreets).
So why a newsletter?
I love the format and the idea of a personal newsletter. I’ve started looking up more blogs and subscribing to newsletters myself. Flicking through thousands of photos is easy, but you don’t get any context or sense of the person behind them. A good newsletter can give you thoughts, reasoning, behind-the-scenes looks, etc.
I’m still on Instagram and other social platforms, but for a while, it has felt like just anonymous noise. When I noticed that I don’t recognize most of the usernames that I follow. I tried to slow down, clean up my following lists, and dive deeper into the creators and artists that I really like. Finding a blog or a newsletter can easily give that insight. In a lot of cases though there was nothing more to find and learn about than just some pixels in a feed. This is my not-just-pixels-in-a-feed.
I want to share more of my work without getting bogged down. I think sharing and getting feedback should be a part of the creative process, but the different social platforms don’t feel creative anymore. I’ve tried to get back to shooting a lot more and I do have a ton of photos in my “drawers”, but I get stuck at the ads and “suggestions” that tend to drain the creative energy. Honestly, a newsletter sounds like a perfect, clean interface.
So with this newsletter, you’ll get a dose of the latest and greatest photos of mine, possibly a look into art and doodles that I’m working on, links to things I’ve found interesting and worth sharing, and I will try to start writing down more of my thoughts. I’ll keep it short and rather occasional, mostly about (street) photography, with hints of everything else.
Hope you subscribe and stick around to see what this thing turns into ;)
Cheers,
Mikk
