Issue 002 - A photo that didn't work, a photo that accidentally did..
Here’s a moody landscape instead of a street photo. I want to share more photos that I’ve actually taken since the last newsletter and with the dark and moody February, I’ve gotten a lot more environmental photos that I love than street photos.

My thoughts on street photography on the Estonian street photography blog.
Andra at eestitanavafoto.ee (Estonian street photography) just published an interview with me. You can read about how I got to shooting streets, how it is different to shoot in the US vs Estonia, how I approach street photography etc. It’s only in Estonian, but it comes with a bunch of my photos.
Also, check out other interviews with local photographers there. A lot of them are also translated into English.

The Paradox of ‘Timelessness’ in Street Photography
What makes photos timeless? Does it even matter? Even though the article is a few years old, it's a great read by Simon King that touches on a subject that comes up again and again in street photography.Faizal Westcott’s Street Study Ep. 01 - Harry Gruyaert
A Boston-based street photographer and YouTuber Faizal Westcott started a new series also reviewing photobooks. His first one is about Harry Gruyaert whose work I was unfamiliar with but immediately fell in love with.Standalone by Jill Freedman
Eyeshot is publishing a book by Jill Freedman, a documentary and street photographer from New York, and I’m pretty excited about it. You can still preorder it on their website.
A photo that didn’t work
I’ve been thinking a lot about this newsletter format and what type of photos to share here. I want to share more recent photos and give a better sense of the behind-the-scenes stuff. Looking back at my recent photo walks I noticed there have been more not-so-perfect shots and I thought it might make a cool section here.
Last week we finally had some really nice sunlight here in Tallinn and I immediately went for a walk with my camera. I already noticed these 2 red jackets coming my way and as they crossed the street they lined up perfectly with 1 extra red jacket popping up. In the one shot where I got them lined up, I also got my own shadow stuck in the middle and not in a good way.
A photo that accidentally worked
I always start my editing process by deleting all the shots that have no potential. This one was one of the “accidentally blurry” ones and I really didn’t make anything of it. For some reason, I decided to click the black-and-white button before deleting it and I was really surprised at how much it changed. Now some days later going through the photos I actually like this one the most from that shoot.
Thanks for reading!
Shoot me a message if you liked it and still want to get another one :)
Cheers,
